The Council took note of an intervention by the Austrian delegation expressing its concern over findings in recent studies having revealed traces of organotin compounds, tributyltin (TBT) in particular, in baby nappies and calling for a ban of this substance in products with which human beings come into indirect or direct contact.
Le Conseil a pris acte de l'intervention de la délégation autrichienne, qui a exprimé sa préoccupation au sujet d'études récentes ayant révélé la présence de composés organostanniques, et notamment de TBT (tributylétain) dans les langes ou couches pour bébés, et a demandé que de cette substance ne puisse être utilisée dans les produits avec lesquels l'homme est indirectement ou directement en contact.

The purpose of this Regulation is to reduce or eliminate adverse effects on the marine environment and human health caused by organotin compounds, which act as active biocides in anti-fouling systems used on ships flying the flag of, or operating under the authority of, a Member State, and on ships, regardless of the flag they fly, sailing to or from ports of the Member States.
Ce règlement a pour objet de réduire ou d'éliminer les effets néfastes sur le milieu marin et la santé humaine des composés organostanniques qui agissent comme biocides actifs dans les systèmes antisalissure utilisés sur les navires battant le pavillon d'un État membre ou exploités sous l'autorité d'un État membre, ainsi que sur tous les navires, quel que soit leur pavillon, qui entrent dans les ports des États membres ou qui en sortent.
