The provisions of this Directive are without prejudice to the Community legislation governing the safety conditions under which biological agents and genetically modified organisms, regulated under Council Directive 90/219/EEC of 23 April 1990 on the contained use of genetically modified micro-organisms , Directive 2001/18/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council of 12 March 2001 on the deliberate release into the environment of genetically modified organisms and Directive 2000/54/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council of 18 September 2000 on the protection of workers from risks related to exposure to biological agents at work , should be transported.

(4) More than ten years after the adoption of the Council Directive 93/104/EC of 23 November 1993 concerning certain aspects of the organization of working time , the initial directive on the organisation of working time, it is necessary to modernise Community legislation on working time, with a view to taking better account of new realities and demands, both from employers and employees, of the need to fulfil the Lisbon objectives and of the case-law of the Court of Justice of the European Communities .
(4) Plus de dix ans après l'adoption de la directive 93/104/CE du Conseil , la directive initiale en matière d'aménagement du temps de travail, il s'avère nécessaire de moderniser la législation communautaire sur le temps de travail , dans le but de mieux prendre en considération les nouvelles réalités et demandes, aussi bien des employeurs que des travailleurs, ainsi que la nécessité de satisfaire aux objectifs de Lisbonne et la jurisprudence de la Cour de justice des Communautés européennes.
