Peter Goldring moved, - That, provided all other Veterans organizations are in agreement not to appear as witnesses on Bill C-61, the Committee agree to immediately move to Clause by Clause consideration of Bill C-61, as it is an important Bill for all Veterans, including the Merchant Navy, and it has the support of all Parties; As a condition of passage of the first paragraph, I further would move that this Committee agree to undertake a separate study of the Merchant Navy compensation issue before the Parliamentary summer recess, including hearing from those Veterans Organisation's witnesses that have previously asked to appear, and that a Report with recommendations be prepared and presented to Parliament in a timely manner.

After careful consideration of your request, our Committee agreed on Thursday May 9, 2013 to undertake a study of the subject matter of the said clauses and has met in this regard on Tuesday May 21 and Thursday May 23, 2013 in order to hear from senior officials at the Department of Veterans Affairs as well as several veterans organisations including: Canadian Veterans Advocacy, Air Force Association, the Royal Canadian Legion, ANAVETS, Aboriginal Veterans Autochtones and the Korean Veterans Association.

On 16 March, with the authorisation of the municipal authorities, parades took place in the Latvian capital, Riga, and in the city of Liepaja, in honour of those who fought with the Nazis in the Second World War; these parades were organised by veterans of the 'Waffen SS', the nationalist organisation 'Everything for Latvia' and 'Club 415'.
