On the occasion of today's award of the Olof Palme Prize 2005 to Daw Aung San Suu Kyi, acknowledging her tireless peaceful struggle for democracy and human rights in Burma/Myanmar, the European Union voices her deep regret that Aung San Suu Kyi remains deprived of her personal freedom which will prevent her from accepting the award in person.
