In recent years, the European Parliament has repeatedly and, most recently, on 5 May 2010, expressed the view that OLAF should gradually move in the direction of comprehensive and unlimited institutional independence, in order to ensure that its activities cannot be deliberately or unintentionally restricted by the fact that its staff and management form part of the structure of the European Commission.
À plusieurs reprises ces dernières années, le Parlement européen a déclaré que l’OLAF devait progressivement s’acheminer vers une indépendance institutionnelle totale et illimitée. Il l’a encore répété le 5 mai 2010. Cette indépendance lui permettrait d’être certain qu’en dépit du fait que son personnel et sa direction sont rattachés à la Commission européenne, son champ d’action ne peut être limité de façon délibérée ou fortuite.
