As the President said at that time, the Council needed to be seen as a genuine national movement with a clear commitment to national reconciliation and to an inclusive political transition – a transition that we have already begun to mobilise resources to support, in close cooperation with our international partners (the UN, the African Union and the Arab League).

Following the Somali National Reconciliation Conference, Transitional Federal Institutions were formed in January 2005, comprising the Transitional Federal Government and the Transitional Federal Parliament.

Recalling its unequivocal support to the Somali National Reconciliation Conference and the Transitional Federal Institutions, as expressed in the Council's conclusions of 22 July 2002 and 22 November 2004, the Council reiterated the strategic importance of peace, stability and prosperity in Somalia and the EU's commitment to continue supporting the Somali reconciliation and peace process.
