– (EL) Madam President, I should like to thank and congratulate Mrs Fraisse because her report is interesting but also has huge difficulties, if you think that, on the one hand, it directly concerns million of citizens in the European Union and, on the other hand, it is an issue for which there are very few competences and very little experience at European level.
- (EL) Madame la Présidente, je voudrais remercier et féliciter Mme Fraisse parce que son rapport est intéressant et aussi parce qu’il met en avant d’énormes difficultés; car en y pensant bien, d’un côté, il concerne directement des millions de citoyens de l’Union européenne et de l’autre, au niveau européen, nous ne disposons que de très peu de compétences et d’expérience sur cette question.

I would like to reply specifically to the question concerning sport raised by Mrs Fraisse. At this stage, there is no European Union offer relating in any way to sport or leisure, for the very simple reason that we have not received any requests to this effect.
Pour répondre précisément à votre question sur le sport, Madame Fraisse, il n'y a pas, à ce stade, d'offre de l'Union en matière sportive ou en matière d'activités récréatives, pour une raison d'ailleurs très simple : nous n'avons pas reçu de requête dans ce domaine.

I would like to thank you, Mrs Fraisse, the members of the Committee on Culture, for this report which will be very useful in current deliberations on the future of the Culture 2000 programme.

With regard to certain proposals contained in Parliament's report on the cinema, the Commission has announced in its communication that it intends to draw up a communication dedicated specifically to the cinematographic sector, which will deal with questions such as the definition of European works, and although Mrs Fraisse is no longer here now, I would nonetheless like to say to her that this will not be easy and that if she wants to give us a hand, it would be very welcome.
En ce qui concerne certaines propositions contenues dans le rapport du Parlement concernant le cinéma, la Commission a annoncé dans sa communication son intention d'élaborer une communication consacrée spécifiquement au secteur cinématographique, qui abordera des questions telles que la définition des œuvres européennes, et bien que Mme Fraisse ne soit plus présente pour l'instant, je voudrais néanmoins lui dire que ce ne sera pas une tâche aisée et que si elle souhaite nous donner un coup de main, celui-ci sera le bienvenu.
