The House resumed consideration of the motion of Mr. Manley (Minister of Finance) , seconded by Mr. Boudria (Minister of State and Leader of the Government in the House of Commons) , — That Bill S-2, An Act to implement an agreement, conventions and protocols concluded between Canada and Kuwait, Mongolia, the United Arab Emirates, Moldova, Norway, Belgium and Italy for the avoidance of double taxation and the prevention of fiscal evasion and to amend the enacted text of three tax treaties, be now read a second time and referred to the Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Trade.

Following the signature yesterday of the two loans with the State of Moldova for the rehabilitation of key national roads, and for the upgrading of its wine-making industry, this project is the sixth investment made by the EIB since it commenced operations in the country in late 2006. Including the current loan, the Bank’s total investments in Moldova now stand at EUR 235 million, showing EIB’s strong commitment to the support of the sustainable economic development of the country in the context of the European Union’s initiatives with its Eastern Partners.
Suite à la signature, hier, des deux contrats de financement conclus avec la République de Moldavie concernant, d’une part, la réfection de routes prioritaires du pays et, d’autre part, la modernisation de sa filière viticole, la présente opération constitue la sixième intervention de la BEI en Moldavie depuis le début de ses activités dans le pays à la fin de 2006. À ce jour, les engagements de la BEI en Moldavie, présent prêt compris, totalisent 235 millions d’EUR, ce qui témoigne de la solidité de l’engagement de la BEI en faveur d’un développement économique durable dans le pays dans le contexte des initiatives de l'Union européenne avec ses partenaires orientaux.
