Regional co-operation and EU's contribution allows for a change from entirely closed to one of the most diversified and open regional energy markets in the Union with further prospects in upcoming years" and Prime Minister of Finland Juha Sipilä added: "Balticconnector is an important milestone in helping to complete EU wide energy market and improving the security of supply in Baltic Sea region".

– (DA) Mr President, my dear fellow member of the Convention Prime Minister Vanhanen, I think it was brave of Mr Vanhanen to offer to begin the ratification process for a treaty that should have been dead and buried after the referendums in France and the Netherlands. Why is there now a lack of courage in Finland?
- (DA) Monsieur le Président, Monsieur le Premier ministre Vanhanen - mon cher collègue de la Convention -, je crois qu’il était courageux de la part de M. Vanhanen de proposer d’entamer le processus de ratification d’un traité qui aurait dû être mort et enterré après les référendums français et néerlandais. Pourquoi ce courage fait-il défaut aujourd’hui en Finlande?

When we went to the Council of Ministers meeting, we found that there were other Member States with exactly the same problems, Finland, for example, where the ministers and governments of those countries had never really contacted their Members of the European Parliament to explain the difficulties they thought they were going to have.
