2. The Lessee will use the said lands only for the purpose of searching for, winning and taking the designated minerals and for that purpose will open, use and work all wells, boreholes, mines and works made, opened or carried on by the Lessee on the said lands in such manner only as is usual and customary in skillful and proper operations of similar character when conducted by proprietors themselves on their own lands, and when working the same shall keep and preserve the said wells, boreholes, mines and works from all avoidable injury and damage, and will maintain the works, erections and fixtures therein and thereon in good repair and condition to the satisfaction of the Minister, and will make safe all abandoned openings or excavations made in connection with or for the purpose of mining or other operations on the said lands, and in such state and condition will deliver peaceable possession thereof and of the said lands to Her Majesty on the termination of this lease.
2. Le locataire n’utilisera les terres que pour la recherche, l’extraction et l’enlèvement des minéraux désignés; à cette fin, il aménage, utilise et exploite tous les puits, trous de sonde, mines et travaux creusés, aménagés ou exécutés par lui sur les terres des seules façons considérées comme habituelles et coutumières dans des exploitations du même genre dirigées habilement et convenablement par des propriétaires sur leurs propres terres; au cours de leur exploitation, il protège les puits, trous de sonde, mines et travaux contre tout dommage et toute avarie évitables; il garde en bon état, à la satisfaction du ministre, les ouvrages, constructions et accessoires fixes qui s’y trouvent; il prend des mesures pour éliminer le danger que peuvent représenter les ouvertures ou excavations abandonnées qui ont été aménagées dans le cadre de l’exploitation minière ou d’autres travaux sur les terres et rend dans le même état la possession paisible des installations et des terres à Sa Majesté à l’expiration du présent bail.

83. A company shall, from time to time, pay to the owner, lessee or occupier of any mines such compensation as the Board fixes and orders to be paid for or by reason of any severance by a pipeline of the land lying over the mines, the working of the mines being prevented, stopped or interrupted, or the mines having to be worked in such manner and under such restrictions as not to injure or be detrimental to the pipeline, and also for any minerals not purchased by the company that cannot be obtained by reason of the construction and operation of its line.
83. Sur ordre de l’Office, la compagnie verse au propriétaire, au locataire ou à l’occupant d’une mine l’indemnité déterminée par l’Office pour couvrir les dommages engendrés par la présence du pipeline : fragmentation du terrain qui recouvre la mine, interruption ou cessation d’exploitation de celle-ci, nécessité de veiller à ne pas nuire au pipeline ou à ne pas l’endommager et restriction que cela entraîne pour l’exploitation et, enfin, perte des minéraux, non achetés par la compagnie, que la construction et l’exploitation de la canalisation rendent impossibles à obtenir.

9. Urges the Sri Lankan Government to give further and increased attention to the clearance of landmines, the presence of which presents a serious obstacle to rehabilitation and economic regeneration, calling on it, in this regard, to take the very positive step of acceding to the Ottawa Treaty (Convention on the Prohibition of the Use, Stockpiling, Production and Transfer of Anti-Personnel Mines and on their Destruction), and urges the Commission, in particular, to sponsor additional support for urgent mine-clearance work in Sri Lanka;
