Mr. Michel Guimond (Beauport-Montmorency-Orléans, BQ): Mr. Speaker, for several months now, the MIL Davie shipyard in Lauzon has been waiting for the federal government to make a decision on building a new ferry to serve the Magdalen Islands (1445) While more and more workers are being laid off, MIL Davie is waiting to be awarded this vital contract so it can ensure its short-term survival and undertake its conversion program.

Michel Guimond (Beauport-Montmorency-Orléans, BQ): Monsieur le Président, depuis plusieurs mois, le chantier naval MIL Davie de Lauzon attend une décision du gouvernement fédéral pour la construction d'un nouveau traversier devant desservir les Îles-de-la-Madeleine (1445) Alors que les mises à pied se multiplient chez les travailleurs, la MIL Davie attend l'octroi de ce contrat vital pour assurer la survie du chantier à court terme et entreprendre ainsi son programme de reconversion.

The hon. member rightly says that everyone is concerned about the future of the MIL Davie shipyard, but surely building the ferry for the run between Prince Edward Island and the Magdalen Islands will not be enough to keep MIL Davie going.
