At the Johannesburg summit, several initiatives have been taken in the field of energy, in particular the EU-Energy Initiative, the JREC and Energy Efficiency Partnership and the Mediterranean Renewable Energy Partnership.

Principales mesures de suivi Poursuivre la réalisation des grands projets d'infrastructure définis dans la communication de la Commission sur les «Priorités en matière d'infrastructures énergétiques pour 2020 et au-delà». Diversifier les sources et les routes d'approvisionnement en gaz et en pétrole, notamment en ouvrant d'urgence le corridor sud-européen. Promouvoir la viabilité et le fonctionnement continu des infrastructures pétrolières et gazières existant à l'est et soutenir la modernisation du réseau ukrainien de transport de gaz d'ici à 2020. Développer une coopération tripartite, au niveau politique et administratif, avec la Russie et l'Ukraine afin de garantir un approvisionnement en gaz stable et ininterrompu par le corridor Est. Promouvoir la coopération avec les pays du sud de la Méditerranée sur des projets d'énergie renouvelable, notamment dans le cadre du plan solaire méditerranéen, en lançant des projet pilotes de centrales solaires en 2011-2012. |

Calls on the European Union to cooperate with the countries of the Mediterranean region, and of North Africa in view of their significant energy resource potential and substantial opportunities for development of Africa; believes, in particular, that the use of solar and wind energy should be researched and encouraged; calls, therefore, for common objectives for renewable energy and energy efficiency to be included in the Barcelona Process: Union for the Mediterranean;

Mediterranean countries: The Fifth Euro-Mediterranean Ministerial Conference on 22-23 April 2002, marking the renewal of the Barcelona Process, adopted an action plan for the development of the Euro Mediterranean partnership in association with the regional strategy (2002-2006) for the Mediterranean region.
