The energy and transport policies are a key element of the partnership for both the EU Member States and the Mediterranean partners because of the planned creation of a Euro-Mediterranean free trade area by 2010 (main objective of the Barcelona Declaration) and prognoses that there will be a significant population increase in the 12 Mediterranean partner countries and the pressure that this will create in the two sectors concerned.
Les politiques de transport et de l'énergie représentent un élément capital du Partenariat tant pour les Etats membres de l'Union que pour les Partenaires méditerranéens, à la fois en raison des perspectives d'établissement d'une grande zone de libre-échange euro-méditerranéenne à l'horizon 2010 (objectif majeur de la Déclaration de Barcelone) et des perspectives d'augmentation significative de la population des 12 Partenaires méditerranéens et de la pression que cela engendrera dans les deux domaines concernés.
