Commends the decision by the Assembly of Foundations to return the lands of the historic Mor Gabriel Monastery to the Syriac community in Turkey, in compliance with the pledge made by the government in the democratisation package; stresses the importance of continuing to provide an appropriate legal framework for the restoration of the property rights of all religious communities; stresses the importance of continuing the process of reform in the area of freedom of thought, conscience and religion by enabling religious communities to obtain legal personality, by eliminating all restrictions on the training, appointment and succession of clergy, by complying with the relevant judgments of the ECtHR and the recommendations of the Venice Commission and by eliminating all forms of discrimination or barriers based on religion; calls on the Government of Turkey to consider the request by the Alevi community to recognise the Cemevis as places of worship in their own right; underlines the importance of lifting all obstacles to a speedy reopening of the Halki Seminary and to public use of the ecclesiastical title of the Ecumenical Patriarch; calls on the Yargitay court to reverse its decision converting the historic Hagia Sophia Church in Trabzon as a mosque and push for its immediate re-opening as a museum.
26. se félicite de la décision de l'Assemblée des fondations de restituer le territoire du monastère historique Mor Gabriel à la communauté syriaque de Turquie, conformément à l'engagement pris par le gouvernement dans le train de mesures de démocratisation; souligne l'importance de continuer de fournir un cadre juridique approprié en vue de la reconstitution des droits de propriété de toutes les communautés religieuses; souligne l'importance de poursuivre les réformes dans le domaine de la liberté de pensée, de conscience et de religion, en permettant notamment aux communautés religieuses d'obtenir la personnalité juridique, en éliminant toutes les restrictions à la formation, à la nomination ainsi qu'à la succession du clergé, en se conformant aux arrêts pertinents de la CEDH et aux recommandations de la Commission de Venise, et en éliminant toute forme de discriminations ou obstacles fondés sur la religion; demande que le gouvernement turc examine la demande de la communauté alévie de reconnaissance des cemevis comme lieux de culte à part entière; rappelle l'importance que revêt la levée de tous les obstacles à une réouverture rapide du séminaire de Halki et à l'usage public du titre ecclésiastique de patriarche œcuménique; demande à la Cour de cassation (Yargitay) d'annuler sa décision de convertir l'église historique Sainte- Sophie de Trabzon en mosquée et souhaite vivement qu'elle soit rouverte immédiatement comme musée;

Considers that Union aid should continue to support the reunification process in Cyprus; in this regard, recommends to the Commission to keep pursuing the five objectives of Regulation (EC) No 389/2006, supporting among others, bi-communal measures, confidence building projects, missing persons related activities, civil society (including the Armenian and Maronite minorities), the preservation and restoration of historical sites, environmental protection as well as the economic and social development and the implementation of the acquis communautaire;
228. estime que l'aide de l'Union doit continuer de soutenir le processus de réunification de Chypre; recommande à cet égard à la Commission de maintenir les cinq objectifs dudit règlement, qui visent à soutenir, entre autres, des projets bicommunautaires, des mesures de création d'un climat de confiance, des actions liées aux personnes disparues, la société civile (notamment les minorités arménienne et maronite), la préservation et la restauration des sites et monuments historiques, la protection de l'environnement, le progrès économique et social et la mise en œuvre de l'acquis de l'Union;

228. Calls on the Commission and the Member States to encourage the implementation of programmes restoring, preserving and protecting sites of cultural, historical or environmental interest with a view to improving their accessibility to tourists; encourages young people to volunteer for these programmes in 2011, the European Year of Volunteering, and beyond;

Brussels is the seventh European venue to host the section of the photographic exhibition (after Lisbon, Barcelona, Paris, Florence, Bucharest and Warsaw) which concerns the Commission's action in 1993 for the conservation/restoration of historic gardens and its pluriannual action for the restoration of three important projects, namely the Historic Centre of Chiado in Lisbon, the Acropolis in Athens and the Monasteries of Mount Athos in North Greece.
Bruxelles est la septième étape de l'itinéraire, à travers l'Europe (après Lisbonne, Barcelone, Paris, Florence, Bucarest, Varsovie) d'une partie de cette exposition photographique relative à l'action de la Commission pour 1993 (sauvegarde de jardins historiques) et son action pluriannuel concernant trois projets importants, à savoir la reconstruction du Centre Historique du Chiado, la conservation/restauration de l'Acropole à Athènes, et la restauration des Monastères du Mont Athos en Grèce du Nord.

The total support for all these projects amounts to 3.770.000 Ecu. The exhibition presents, also, three significant projects, namely the restoration/reconstruction of the Historic Centre of Chiado in Lisbon, the Conservation/restoration of the Parthenon and the Acropolis of Athens and the restoration of the Monasteries of Mount Athos in Northern Greece, all of which are supported financially by the Commission on an annual basis due to their importance at European and International level.
