The point I was making, and the point I was trying to make in response to Mr. Jaffer's questions, is that “circumstance” is a great Burkean word, and it's important for us to be Burkean in our judgments with respect to what could unfold, rather than setting down rigid mathematical formulas that don't really reflect the circumstances of the situation.
