E. whereas concerns have grown in Italy over the last few months owing to the enduring conflict of interests with reference to the Prime Minister’s media ownership and political control of both major private and public media, including control over how advertising resources are allocated; whereas the government has been heavily interfering in the public television broadcasting service, particularly in relation to the definition of programmes, the appointment of directors, editors and journalists, with an impact on media pluralism, as stated by the main media monitoring institute in Italy, the Monitoring Centre of Pavia; whereas, the Italian Prime Minister has been filing lawsuits against Italian and European newspapers and recently requested that the European Commission spokespersons refrain from giving any information,
E. considérant que la situation en Italie est extrêmement préoccupante en raison du conflit d'intérêts persistant entre la propriété des médias et le contrôle politique des médias tant privés que publics, ainsi que le contrôle sur le mode d'affectation des ressources publicitaires; considérant que le gouvernement s'immisce en outre fortement dans le service public de la télévision, notamment en termes de programmation, de nomination des directeurs et rédacteurs ainsi que de contrats de journalistes, ce qui a une incidence sur le pluralisme des médias, comme l'a d'ailleurs fait remarquer le principal institut de surveillance des médias en Italie; considérant que le premier ministre italien a engagé des actions contre des journaux italiens et européens et a récemment demandé que les porte-parole de la Commission européenne s'abstiennent de donner toute information,
