The operation includes a multinational battalion and an integrated police unit based in Sarajevo, monitoring and liaison teams spread out across the whole country and five regional coordination centres in Sarajevo Tuzla, Banja Luka, Mostar and Zenica.

The grant, which comes on top of a global humanitarian plan worth 93,89 MECU adopted by the Commission last May for all the republics of former Yugoslavia, will be spent on: o supporting the International Committee of the Red Cross and non- governmental organisations in the Banja Luka region in their efforts to absorb the inflow of those fleeing the Croat offensive. o supporting NGO's work on behalf of those who left Srebrenica and Zepa o meeting needs arising from conflict around Bihac In addition to this, the European Community Task Force in Zagreb is making available a stock of 620 tonnes of food for children and elderly people in the Banja Luka area and ECHO-Belgrade is providing emergency assistance kits to the refugees at the crossing points between Bosnia and Serbia-Montenegro.
Cette aide, qui vient s'ajouter au 93,89 millions d'écus du plan humanitaire global adopté en mai dernier par la Commission pour l'ensemble des républiques de l'ancienne Yougoslavie, sera affectée aux fins suivantes: -- assister le Comité international de la Croix-Rouge et les organisations non gouvernementales qui cherchent, dans la région de Banja Luka, à accueillir les réfugiés qui fuient devant l'offensive croate; -- appuyer les ONG qui offrent des secours à ceux qui ont quitté les enclaves de Srebrenica et de Zepa; -- répondre aux besoins découlant des hostilités autour de Bihac. Par ailleurs, la Task Force de la Communauté européenne à Zagreb met à la disposition des enfants et des personnes âgées dans la zone de Banja Luka un stock de 620 tonnes de produits alimentaires et ECHO-Belgrade fournit des kits d'urgence aux réfugiés aux points de passage entre la Bosnie et la Serbie-Monténégro.

The hospital, which opened in July 1993, was financed by ECU 2 million in humanitarian aid from ECHO, the European Community Humanitarian Office. It not only provides urgent medical treatment for the isolated inhabitants of Banja Luka; it also carries out common surgical and orthopaedic operations and has post-operative care facilities.
