IN-CONTEXT TRANSLATIONS

T. whereas the Lithuanian authorities have endeavoured to shed light on Lithuania's involvement in the CIA programme by carrying out parliamentary and judicial inquiries; whereas the parliamentary investigation by the Seimas Committee on National Security and Defence concerning the alleged transportation and confinement of persons detained by the CIA on Lithuanian territory established that five CIA-related aircraft landed in Lithuania between 2003 and 2005 and that two tailored facilities suitable for holding detainees in Lithuania (Projects Nos 1 and 2) were prepared at the request of the CIA; whereas the LIBE delegation thanks the Lithuanian authorities for welcoming Members of the European Parliament to Vilnius in April 2012 and allowing the LIBE delegation access to Project No 2; whereas the layout of the buildings and installations inside appears to be compatible with the detention of prisoners; whereas many questions relating to CIA operations in Lithuania remain open despite the subsequent judicial investigation conducted in 2010 and closed in January 2011; whereas the Lithuanian authorities have expressed their readiness to re-launch investigations if other new information were to come to light, and whereas the Prosecutor's Office has offered to provide further information on the criminal investigation in response to a written request from Parliament;
T. considérant que les autorités lituaniennes se sont engagées à apporter des éclaircissements sur la participation de la Lituanie au programme de la CIA en menant des enquêtes parlementaires et judiciaires; considérant que l'enquête menée par la commission de la défense et de la sécurité nationale du Seimas portant sur les allégations de transfert et d'incarcération de personnes détenues par la CIA sur le territoire lituanien a établi que cinq aéronefs liés aux activités de la CIA ont atterri en Lituanie entre 2003 et 2005 et que les deux installations destinées à héberger des détenus en Lituanie (Projet n° 1 et Projet n° 2) ont été préparées à la demande de la CIA; considérant que la délégation LIBE remercie les autorités lituaniennes d'avoir accueilli les députés du Parlement européen à Vilnius en avril 2012 et d'avoir permis à la délégation LIBE d'accéder au Projet n° 2; considérant que l'agencement des bâtiments et leur aménagement intérieur semblent compatibles avec la détention de prisonniers; considérant que de nombreuses questions liées aux opérations de la CIA en Lituanie restent en suspens en dépit de l'enquête judiciaire réalisée ultérieurement en 2010 et clôturée en janvier 2011; considérant que les autorités lituaniennes se sont dites prêtes à relancer les enquêtes si d'autres informations devaient être révélées, et que le ministère public a proposé de fournir de plus amples informations relatives à l'enquête pénale en réponse à une demande écrite du Parlement;
