In view of all the above and in the expectation of significant progress in the talks currently being pursued under the auspices of the Secretary-General of the United Nations, the Commission feels that a positive signal should be sent to the authorities and the people of Cyprus confirming that the Community considers Cyprus as eligible for membership and that as soon as the prospect of a settlement is surer, the Community is ready to start the process with Cyprus that should eventually lead to its accession.
Compte tenu de l'ensemble des éléments qui précèdent, et dans l'espoir de progrès décisifs dans les négociations actuellement conduites sous les auspices du Secrétaire Général des Nations Unies, la Commission est convaincue qu'un message positif doit être envoyé aux autorités et au peuple chypriotes confirmant que la Communauté considère Chypre comme éligible à l'adhésion et que dès que les perspectives d'un règlement seront plus assurées, la Communauté se tient prête à engager avec Chypre le processus devant finalement conduire à cette adhésion.
