Sunday's decision by Likud against the very idea of a Palestinian state – to which the High Representative referred and which has also been condemned by Mr Peres and others – if maintained against the wish of the whole international community, including the United States Administration, would bring us, in the words of the Israeli Labour Party Chairman Benjamin Ben-Eliezer “to an era of continuing confrontation and bloody battles".
