The prospect of the forthcoming enlargement makes it a matter of urgency that institutions designed for the six founding States of the Community be adapted, so that they can emerge from the Conference with renewed legitimacy: the more efficient and transparent the institutions of the Union are, the more support they receive from our citizens, the greater the benefits of all kinds that will flow from the Union to Europe and its citizens.
