Mr Ramón Luis VALCÁRCEL SISO has been a member of the Committee of the Regions as from 26 January 2010 and was appointed as President of the Autonomous Community of the Region of Murcia in accordance with the proposal of the Kingdom of Spain (2).

During the debate the President of the Committee of the Regions, Ramón Luis Valcárcel Siso voiced the deep concerns of the Committee on the cuts to the next EU budget which were discussed by the Council and on the inability of Member States to find an agreement: "Until a few days ago we all agreed that the EU budget should be our main tool to support growth and jobs in Europe, that promoting a smart and inclusive development of our economies was our priority.

In view of the informal Council meeting that was held on 11 February, I would like to ask what commitment the Council, the Commission and all the European institutions want to make in order to strengthen the commitment to the social pact that was mentioned in the speech by the rotating President of the Union for the next six months, the Spanish Prime Minister, José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero?
Après la réunion informelle du Conseil du 11 février dernier, je voudrais demander quels engagements le Conseil, la Commission et toutes les institutions européennes comptent prendre pour renforcer l’engagement en faveur du pacte social mentionné dans le discours de celui qui occupera la Présidence de l’Union au cours des six prochains mois, le Premier ministre espagnol José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero?
