The problem is that in trying to simplify we end up by being simplistic, and in seeking to define an amending Treaty – rather than a consolidating Treaty – we are in the realm purely of semantics. In changing terminology and in suppressing the symbols we risk turning Euro-scepticism into Euro-cynicism.
Le problème est qu’en essayant de simplifier nous finissons par être simplistes, et en cherchant à élaborer un traité de changement - plutôt qu’un traité de consolidation - nous empruntons la voie de la sémantique pure. En modifiant la terminologie et en supprimant les symboles, nous risquons de transformer l’euroscepticisme en eurocynisme.
