The actions contained in this Report will help address some of the most important issues identified during the review and take the E-PRTR forward in a way that will further improve its usability and encourage wider use of the important environmental information contained therein.

In a number of cases, and in particular taking into account the relation between information needs and the geographical scope of the marine waters concerned, it can be appropriate to apply as a first step some selected criteria and related indicators for an overall screening of the environmental state at a broader scale and only then identify instances and specific areas where, having regard to the importance of impacts and threats in view of the environmental characteristics and/or human pressures, a finer assessment is necessary, involving all relevant indicators related to criteria.

The objective of EMAS, as an important instrument of the Sustainable Consumption and Production and Sustainable Industrial Policy Action Plan, is to promote continuous improvements in the environmental performance of organisations by the establishment and implementation of environmental management systems by organisations, the systematic, objective and periodic evaluation of the performance of such systems, the provision of information on environmental performance, an open dialogue with the public and other interested parties and the active involvement of employees in organisations and appropriate training.
L’EMAS, qui est un instrument important du plan d’action pour une consommation et une production durables et pour une politique industrielle durable, a pour objet de promouvoir l’amélioration constante des résultats obtenus par les organisations en matière d’environnement au moyen de l’établissement et de la mise en œuvre, par ces organisations, de systèmes de management environnemental, de l’évaluation systématique, objective et périodique du fonctionnement de ces systèmes, de la fourniture d’informations sur les résultats obtenus en matière d’environnement et de la concertation avec le public et les autres parties intéressées, ainsi qu’au moyen de la participation active des employés des organisations et d’une formation appropriée.

The Sixth Community Environment Action Programme stresses the importance of providing adequate environmental information and effective opportunities for public participation in environmental decision-making, thereby increasing accountability and transparency of decision-making and contributing to public awareness and support for the decisions taken.
Le sixième programme d’action communautaire pour l’environnement insiste sur la nécessité de fournir des informations environnementales appropriées et d’offrir au public de véritables possibilités de participation au processus décisionnel en matière d’environnement, de manière à renforcer l’obligation de rendre compte et la transparence dans le cadre de la prise de décision, en vue de sensibiliser l’opinion publique et d’obtenir son adhésion aux décisions prises.
