The Assembly has also established its work programme for 2011, retaining four main themes: climate change, with special emphasis on the problem of desertification (rapporteur: Nichi Vendola, President of the Region of Puglia/Italy), but also renewable energies (rapporteur: Michel Lebrun, Member of the Parliament of the French-speaking Community/Belgium), the role of small and medium enterprises in the Mediterranean (rapporteur: Fathallah Oualalou, Mayor of Rabat/Morocco) and cultural heritage, including the role of youth in the preservation and enhancement of local cultural heritage (rapporteur: Asim Güzelbey, Mayor of Gaziantep/Turkey).
L’Assemblée a par ailleurs établi son programme de travail pour 2011, retenant quatre thématiques principales : le changement climatique, avec un accent particulier sur le problème de la désertification (rapporteur : Nichi Vendola, Pouilles/Italie), mais aussi les énergies renouvelables (rapporteur : Michel Lebrun, membre de la Communauté française/Belgique), ainsi que le rôle des petites et moyennes entreprises dans la Méditerranée (rapporteur : Fathallah Oualalou, Maire de Rabat/Maroc) et enfin l’héritage culturel, notamment sous l’angle du rôle des jeunes dans la préservation et la valorisation du patrimoine culturel local (rapporteur : Asim Güzelbey, Maire de Gaziantep/Turquie).

– (EL) Mr President, I should like to start by thanking the European Parliament, especially, the rapporteur, Mrs Paliadeli, and the shadow rapporteurs, for their solid support for the Commission’s proposal on the European Heritage Label.
– (EL) Monsieur le Président, je voudrais tout d’abord remercier le Parlement européen et particulièrement la rapporteure, Mme Paliadeli, ainsi que les rapporteurs fictifs pour leur soutien inconditionnel à la proposition de la Commission concernant le label du patrimoine européen.

The Rapporteur welcomes the Commission's proposal to use the European Heritage label as a tool, among other more efficient ways, to fill in the gap between the European Union and its citizens; as a way to stress that European history is the result of the diverse, yet rich and complementary, common cultural heritage; as an appreciation that the EU is rooted in strong values such as freedom, democracy, respect for human rights, cultural diversity, tolerance and solidarity.
La rapporteure pour avis se félicite de la proposition de la Commission de faire du label un outil parmi d'autres pour combler le fossé entre l'Union européenne et ses citoyens, pour souligner que l'histoire européenne est liée à un patrimoine culturel commun divers et pourtant riche et complémentaire et pour signaler que l'UE se fonde sur des valeurs solides telles que la liberté, la démocratie, le respect des droits de l'homme, la diversité culturelle, la tolérance et la solidarité.

As regards the protection of film heritage, the Rapporteur is particularly pleased with the Commission's recognition of the film industry having a great potential for creating employment and contributing to economic growth.
En ce qui concerne la protection du patrimoine cinématographique, le rapporteur apprécie particulièrement que la Commission reconnaisse le fort potentiel de l'industrie cinématographique en matière de création d'emplois et de contribution à la croissance économique.

Our cultural identity is being protected all the time and this is right and proper because it is an important part of Europe’s cultural heritage. The rapporteur himself, in a cogent phrase, defined the situation in Europe as the unity of diversities.
L’on défend à tout moment notre diversité culturelle, ce qui est positif, parce qu'il s’agit d’un patrimoine européen important. Le rapporteur lui-même, a défini de manière très lucide la situation européenne comme l’unité des diversités.

I therefore welcome the fact that the rapporteur has highlighted the issue of building up our heritage.
Je me félicite donc de l'importance que le rapporteur a accordée à cette question de la constitution du patrimoine.

Green growth and jobs are also among the objectives of the report on the role of small and medium enterprises in the Mediterranean drafted by rapporteur Fathallah Oualalou (Rabat/Morocco), while the preservation and enhancement of cultural heritage in the Mediterranean was the topic of the report drafted by Asim Güzelbey (Gaziantep, Turkey).
Une croissance et des emplois verts figurent également parmi les objectifs du rapport sur le rôle des petites et moyennes entreprises en Méditerranée, élaboré par le rapporteur Fathallah Oualalou (Rabat/Maroc), tandis que le rapport préparé par Asim Güzelbey (Gaziantep, Turquie) portait sur la préservation et la mise en valeur du patrimoine culturel en Méditerranée.
