I do not regard the two as incompatible, and this is my reply to Mrs Ludford and also to the honourable Member who spoke just now about my convictions: there is no incompatibility between having a grand vision and strong convictions on the one hand, and on the other hand acting pragmatically as to how they should be implemented, and that is my position. I have strong non-negotiable convictions, particularly when it comes to freedom and the rule of law.
Je ne considère pas ces deux choses comme incompatibles, et c’est ma réponse à Mme Ludford et à la députée qui vient de parler de mes convictions: on peut très bien, d’une part, avoir une vision ambitieuse et de fortes convictions et, d’autre part, agir de manière pragmatique quant à la manière de les mettre en œuvre. Ce n’est pas incompatible. Telle est ma position.
