The main activities in 2007 have been the provision of strategic and administrative support to the Scientific Council, implementation of the first call for ERC Starting Grants, including the operational development of the call management and peer review systems, preparation of the first ERC Advanced Grants call, communication with the scientific community and assurance of the integrity of procedures and processes.

Nevertheless, in addition to State aid granted under Community rules common to all sectors, notably the Community framework for Research and Development and the Community guidelines on State aid for rescuing and restructuring forms in difficulty , certain Community instruments governing State aid granted for trade and industrial production apply also to the forest sector, notably the Commission guidelines on national regional aid for 2007–2013 and the Community Guidelines on State Aid for Environmental Protection .

The granting of Community patents is liable to lead to litigation between private individuals, particularly as regards the validity and infringement of patents granted.

Commission Regulation (EC) No 1754/2006 of 28 November 2006 laying down detailed rules for the granting of Community financial assistance to Community reference laboratories for feed and food and the animal health sector (3) provides that the financial assistance from the Community is to be granted if the approved work programmes are efficiently carried out and the beneficiaries supply all the necessary information within certain time limits.

By means of this Regulation, general rules should be laid down for the granting of Community financial aid in the field of the TEN-T and TEN-E in accordance with Community law and policies concerning, in particular, competition, environmental protection, health, sustainable development, public procurement and the effective implementation of the Community policies on interoperability.

From the entry into force of this Agreement, Turkmenistan shall grant to Community companies and nationals, in respect of the recognition and protection of intellectual, industrial and commercial property, treatment no less favourable than that granted by it to any third country under bilateral agreements.
Dès l’entrée en vigueur du présent accord, le Turkménistan accorde aux sociétés et aux ressortissants de la Communauté, en matière de reconnaissance et de protection de la propriété intellectuelle, industrielle et commerciale, un traitement non moins favorable que celui qu’il réserve à un pays tiers dans le cadre d’un accord bilatéral.

2. Without prejudice to the reservations listed in Annex 3, the Community and its Member States shall grant to Community subsidiaries of Russian companies a treatment no less favourable than that granted to other Community companies or to Community companies which are subsidiaries of any third country companies whichever is the better, in respect of their operation and this in conformity with their legislation and regulations.
