1. The Geographical Indications Sub-Committee (‘GI Sub-Committee’), established in accordance with Article 179 of the Association Agreement between the European Union and the European Atomic Energy Community and their Member States, of the one part, and Georgia, of the other part (‘the Agreement’) shall assist the Association Committee in Trade configuration, as set out in Article 408(4) of the Agreement (‘the Association Committee in Trade configuration’), in the performance of its functions.

Pursuant to Article 179 of the Agreement, the Geographical Indications Sub-Committee (‘GI Sub-Committee’) is to monitor the development of the Agreement in the field of geographical indications and is to serve as a forum for cooperation and dialogue on geographical indications.

Article 3 of Council Decision 2014/494/EU (2) specifies which parts of the Agreement are to be applied provisionally, including the provisions on the establishment and functioning of the Sanitary and Phytosanitary Sub-Committee (‘SPS Sub-Committee’), the Customs Sub-Committee, and the Geographical Indications Sub-Committee (‘GI Sub-Committee’).

The position to be taken on behalf of the Union within the Geographical Indications Sub-Committee established by Article 179 of the Agreement, as regards the adoption of the Rules of Procedure of the GI Sub-Committee shall be based on the draft Decision of that sub-committee attached to this Decision.

4. Demands that additional finance be allocated to the milk sector, in order to mitigate the impact of ongoing price volatility within the sector, the abolition of the quota system and the Russian embargo; calls for increased funding for the organisation and consolidation of producer organisations in the fruit and vegetable sector, and further insists that some specific agricultural sub-sectors, such as beekeeping, are in need of greater funding; highlights the importance of schemes for milk and fruit in schools, and proposes an increase in appropriations of EUR 20 million a year for the milk programme, in line with the vote of the Committee on Agriculture; stresses the need for support for organic farming, and for geographical indication schemes including ‘traditional speciality guaranteed’ schemes;
4. demande que des fonds supplémentaires soient alloués au secteur du lait, afin d'atténuer les conséquences de la volatilité actuelle des prix au sein du secteur, de la suppression du système de quotas et de l'embargo russe; appelle à une augmentation du soutien financier consacré à l'organisation et au renforcement des organisations de producteurs du secteur des fruits et légumes, et insiste en outre sur le fait que certains sous-secteurs agricoles spécifiques, comme l'apiculture, ont besoin de fonds supplémentaires; souligne l'importance de programmes en faveur de la consommation de lait et de fruits à l'école et propose une augmentation des crédits de 20 millions d'euros par an pour le programme lait, conformément au vote de la commission de l'agriculture; souligne la nécessite du soutien à l'agriculture biologique, ainsi qu'aux programmes en faveur des indications géographiques, y compris le signe "spécialité traditionnelle garantie";
