Next to information technologies for which applications of superconductivity present a specific interest, the European Commission services are finalising a more general "incentive programme" for activities in the area of superconductivity in various existing Community R D programmes : - BRITE which aims at making more "traditional" industry sectors benefit from high technology; - research on so-called advanced materials; - research carried out at the Community Bureau of Reference; - research in energy; - the "stimulation programme" which among others aims at establishing a real "Europe of scientists"; - and possibly also the R D programme on nuclear fusion which aims at bringing about a new form of energy which would be hardly polluting and quasi inexhaustible.
