I'm the chief financial officer for Women's College Hospital Foundation in Toronto. I'm honoured to be asked to appear before this committee, and I want to take the opportunity to not only speak on behalf of myself and Women's College Hospital Foundation, but also on behalf of the hospital foundations that are associated with the Toronto Academic Health Sciences Network, or TAHSN.

Since 2001 we have sponsored the following organizations to the tune of $2 million in cash and in-kind contributions: the Toronto International Film Festival, Sprockets: the Toronto International Film Festival for Children, the film circuits, the Montreal World Film Festival, the Vancouver International Film Festival, the Atlantic Film Festival, Cinéfest Sudbury International Film Festival, Victoria Independent Film and Video Festival, ReelWorld Film Festival, Inside Out Toronto Lesbian and Gay Film and Video Festival, image&nation the Montreal international gay and lesbian film festival Images Festival, Hot Docs, the Academy of Canadian Cinema and Television, and the Cinémathèque québécoise.

Since it is the owner of a huge collection of heritage and commercial films, one of the NFB's objectives is to digitize its entire collection and make its titles more accessible on many platforms: via Internet, video on request, consultation centres, media libraries, in Toronto and in Montreal, and video libraries throughout the country, close circuits, server-to server, movie theatres and schools.
En sa capacité de détenteur d'une grande collection de valeur patrimoniale et en partie commerciale, l'ONF a pour objectif, entre autres, de transférer la totalité de sa collection en format numérique et d'accroître l'accès à ses titres par le biais d'une diffusion multiplateforme: Internet, vidéo à la demande, centres de consultation, médiathèques à Toronto et à Montréal, et cinémathèques partout au pays, circuits fermés, serveur à serveur, cinémas et écoles.

However, I give much credit to the women of Canada for the progress on this issue, more so than to any politician or government, to organizations such as the Women's Health Research Foundation of Canada, situated in Winnipeg, which has been raising money for research into women's health needs for 15 years and of which I have the honour to be the patron; the Genesis Foundation of Toronto, a leader in the efforts to put more research dollars into health problem particular to women; and all the women's groups and breast cancer survivors across Canada who are responsible for putting this issue on the public agenda.
