Observes that Natura 2000, the EU's network for safeguarding biodiversity and conservation of species, is an important element in the EU's green infrastructure.

The Scientific Advisory Group to be established pursuant to Article 9(3) of Regulation (EC) No 2152/2003 should advise the Standing Forestry Committee on technical matters of the monitoring scheme.
