Addressing the food supply chain via a KIC will thus give the possibility to address not only some of the major economic and societal relevant challenges Europe is facing, but also to mobilise investment and long-term commitment from the business sector – namely, in the deployment of new and innovative technologies, processes and knowledge to increase sustainable food production, processing, packaging and distribution, to reduce waste and promote better nutrition.
Agir sur la chaîne d'approvisionnement alimentaire par l'intermédiaire d'une CCI nous donnera ainsi la possibilité non seulement de relever certains des principaux défis économiques et sociétaux auxquels l'Europe est confrontée, mais aussi de mobiliser l'investissement et de susciter l'engagement à long terme des entreprises – notamment à travers le déploiement de technologies nouvelles et innovantes, de processus et de connaissances visant à accroître la production, la transformation, le conditionnement et la distribution durables de produits alimentaires, en vue de réduire les déchets et de promouvoir une meilleure nutrition.

The activities carried out in this area are intended to help establish the integrated scientific and technological bases needed to develop an environmentally friendly production and distribution chain of safer, healthier and varied food, including sea-food and to control food-related risks, relying in particular on biotechnology tools taking into account the results of post-genomic research, as well as to control health risks associated with environmental changes.
L'objectif des actions menées dans ce domaine est d'aider à établir les bases scientifiques et technologiques intégrées nécessaires au développement respectueux de l'environnement d'une chaîne de production et de distribution d'aliments plus sûrs, plus sains et plus variés, y compris les fruits de mer, et de maîtriser les risques liés à l'alimentation, en s'appuyant notamment sur les outils de la biotechnologie compte tenu des résultats de la recherche post-génomique, ainsi que de maîtriser les risques pour la santé liés aux modifications de l'environnement.
