There are tens of thousands of chemicals currently in the market for which there is, as yet, no assessment of potential risks to human health and the environment when they get into the air we breathe or into the water column and then potentially into aquatic organisms and fish. Some that have been identified are flame retardants, pharmaceuticals and personal care products, and some commonly used pesticides.
