IN-CONTEXT TRANSLATIONS

The objective of this Directive is to reduce as far as possible the occurrence of major accidents relating to offshore oil and gas operations and to limit their consequences, thus increasing the protection of the marine environment and coastal economies against pollution, establishing minimum conditions for safe offshore exploration and exploitation of oil and gas and limiting possible disruptions to Union indigenous energy production, and to improve the response mechanisms in case of an accident.
L’objectif de la présente directive est de réduire autant que possible la fréquence des accidents majeurs liés aux opérations pétrolières et gazières en mer et d’en limiter les conséquences, en améliorant ainsi la protection de l’environnement marin et des économies côtières contre la pollution, en établissant des conditions de sécurité minimales pour l’exploration et l’exploitation du pétrole et du gaz en mer et en limitant les perturbations éventuelles qui toucheraient la production énergétique indigène de l’Union, et d’améliorer les mécanismes d’intervention en cas d’accident.

In so far as mobile offshore drilling units are in transit and are to be considered as ships, they are subject to international maritime conventions, in particular, SOLAS, MARPOL or the equivalent standards of the applicable version of the Code for the construction and equipment of mobile offshore drilling units (MODU Code).
