Member States may exempt existing medium combustion plants being part of SIS and MIS from compliance with the emission limit values set out in Part 1 of Annex II for up to five years, but no later than 2030, from the dates set out in the first, second and third subparagraphs of paragraph 2 of this Article respectively, without prejudice to existing international commitments.

It recommended that states and international organisations, on a voluntary basis and without prejudice to the implementation of obligations deriving from existing legal commitments, consider and implement the TCBMs described in the GGE's report and endorsed efforts to pursue political commitments, for example, in the form of unilateral declarations, bilateral commitments or a multilateral code of conduct, to encourage responsible actions in, and the peaceful use of, outer space.

The Union's international obligations in relation to air pollution, which are designed to abate acidification, eutrophication, ground-level ozone and emissions of particulate matter, are agreed under the Gothenburg Protocol to the Convention on Long-range Transboundary Air Pollution, which was amended in 2012 to strengthen the existing reduction commitments for sulphur dioxide, nitrogen oxides, ammonia and volatile organic compounds, and to introduce new reduction commitments for fine particulate matter (PM 2.5), to be attained from 2020 onwards.

This Directive aims to integrate into existing legislation technical progress in terms of monitoring emissions from incineration processes and to ensure compliance with the international commitments made by the Community with regard to reducing pollution, specifically concerning the setting of emissions limit values for dioxides, mercury and dust produced by waste incineration.
La présente directive vise à intégrer dans la législation existante les progrès techniques en matière de contrôle des émissions des procédés d'incinération et à assurer le respect des engagements internationaux pris par la Communauté en matière de réduction de la pollution, notamment ceux concernant la fixation de valeurs limites pour les émissions de dioxines, de mercure et de poussières occasionnées par l'incinération de déchets.

By 15 July 2012 at the latest, the Commission shall publish a report assessing the contribution of this Directive to the implementation of existing obligations, commitments and initiatives of the Member States or the Community at Community or international level in the sphere of environmental protection in marine waters.
