Two years ago, it was my privilege to represent Canada at the meeting on trans-Atlantic trade called by Chancellor Merkel in the Bundestag in Germany. It was an honour to offer a Canadian perspective on the broad and compelling notion of a dynamic and mutually productive European Union-North American economic and trade initiative that would, by definition, be both separate from and complementary to the strong relationships we share through the multilateral organizations in which Canadians are so active.
