For the protection and promotion of cultural heritage comprising urban historical sites and landscapes, which are an integral part of the cultural diversity that the Union is committed to respecting and promoting in accordance with Article 167(4) TFEU, the definitions and principles developed in relevant Council of Europe Conventions, in particular the European Convention for the Protection of the Archaeological Heritage of 6 May 1969, the Convention for the Protection of the Architectural Heritage of Europe of 3 October 1985, the European Landscape Convention of 20 October 2000, the Framework Convention on the Value of Cultural Heritage for Society of 27 October 2005 can be useful.

Calls on the Turkish Government fully to consider the sustainability and environmental consequences of its plans for new water and energy infrastructure under the South-East Anatolia Project (GAP), which threaten to destroy the environment and the unique landscape of many regions, and, in particular, the project’s impact on neighbouring Iraq; stresses especially the need to ensure that the draft law on nature protection and biodiversity is amended so as to preserve the cultural and archaeological heritage in full accordance with European standards and to allocate responsibility for nature protection clearly within the executive; calls on the Government to adopt a more ambitious policy framework, underpinned by specific action plans, to combat the growth of carbon emissions;
invite le gouvernement à étudier de manière approfondie la viabilité et les conséquences environnementales de ses projets de nouvelles infrastructures de distribution d'eau et d'énergie, dans le cadre du projet de l’Anatolie du sud-est (GAP), qui risquent d'endommager l'environnement et le paysage unique de nombreuses régions, et en particulier à se pencher sur l'incidence de ce chantier sur le pays voisin qu'est l'Iraq; insiste en particulier sur la nécessité de veiller à ce que le projet de loi relatif à la protection de la nature et à la biodiversité soit modifié de manière à préserver le patrimoine culturel et archéologique dans le respect intégral des normes européennes et d'attribuer clairement la responsabilité de la protection de la nature au pouvoir exécutif; invite le gouvernement à adopter un cadre politique plus ambitieux, soutenu par des plans d'action concrets, afin de lutter contre l'augmentation des émissions de dioxyde de carbone;

(c) As regards cultural heritage of European importance, in particular intellectual and non-intellectual, movable and non-movable heritage (museums and collections, libraries, archives, including photographic archives, audiovisual archives covering cultural works), archaeological and sub-aquatic heritage, architectural heritage, all of the cultural sites and landscapes (cultural and natural goods), this approach seeks:
