Brussels/Lisbon,1 June 2012 – The names of the winners of the public choice award and six 'Grand Prix' laureates in the 2012 European Union Prize for Cultural Heritage / Europa Nostra Awards will be announced this evening at the Jerónimos Monastery in Lisbon, in the presence of Androulla Vassiliou, European Commissioner for Education, Culture, Multilingualism and Youth, and Plácido Domingo, the world-renowned tenor and President of Europa Nostra.
Bruxelles/Lisbonne, le 1er juin 2012 – Les noms des lauréats du prix du public et des six «grands prix» 2012 décernés dans le cadre du Prix du patrimoine culturel de l’Union européenne/Concours Europa Nostra seront révélés ce soir au monastère des Hiéronymites, à Lisbonne, en présence de la commissaire européenne à l’éducation, à la culture, au multilinguisme et à la jeunesse, Mme Androulla Vassiliou, et du ténor de renommée mondiale Plácido Domingo, président d’Europa Nostra.

Welcomes the ‘European heritage label’ initiative as a tool giving prominence to some of the important sites in the history of European integration; stresses the need for coordination between this initiative and the UNESCO heritage sites and other historic routes; considers coordination with other comparable initiatives, such as the Europa Nostra Award, to be necessary in order to avoid overlapping; calls on the Commission to point out to Member States that sites which receive the ‘European heritage label’ must always remain open and accessible, with provision even being made for skeleton staff;
9. accueille favorablement l'initiative relative à un «label du patrimoine européen», qui permettra de mettre en valeur certains sites symbolisant l'histoire de l'intégration européenne; insiste sur la nécessité d'établir un lien entre cette initiative et les sites reconnus par l'Unesco ainsi que d'autres itinéraires historiques; estime qu'il faut veiller à assurer la coordination avec d'autres initiatives similaires telles que le prix Europa Nostra afin d'éviter tout double emploi; demande à la Commission de bien indiquer aux États membres que les sites qui bénéficient du «label du patrimoine européen» doivent rester ouverts et accessibles en permanence, ne serait-ce qu'avec le personnel minimum;
