So our first obligation today must be to defend the euro and the euro area against speculative pressures and, secondly, we must realise that we can no longer remain fixed on close monetary unification and that, until real economic convergence is achieved between the euro area states, both the so-called slow-lane economies and the overall credibility of the euro area and the stability of the euro will be affected.
Dès lors, notre première obligation aujourd’hui consiste à défendre l’euro et la zone euro contre les pressions spéculatives et, ensuite, à comprendre que nous ne pouvons rester plus longtemps fixés sur une unification monétaire étroite et que, jusqu’à l’avènement d’une véritable cohérence économique entre les États de la zone euro, les économies dites à la traîne, la crédibilité en général de la zone euro et la stabilité de l’euro seront affectées.
