Last year, ECHO financed projects totalling €17.25 million, principally in the sectors of health, water and sanitation and nutritional support for malnourished children.

2. Synergies, consistency and complementarity shall be sought with other instruments of the European Union or the Community, inter alia with the European Union Solidarity Fund, the Instrument for Stability and the ECHO, so as to avoid duplication and ensure optimum added value and use of resources This applies, in particular, with regard to the proposal for a Commission Decision on financing a pilot project containing a set of preparatory actions with a view to strengthening the fight against terrorism, which will provide the financing for the secure general rapid alert system (ARGUS) and the European Programme for Critical Infrastructure Protection (EPCIP), in order to guarantee coherence in the fields of critical infrastructure protection and civil protection.

Il est recherché une synergie, une cohérence et une complémentarité avec d'autres instruments de l'Union européenne ou de la Communauté, notamment avec le Fonds de solidarité de l'Union européenne, l'instrument de stabilité et l'Office humanitaire de la Communauté européenne, de manière à éviter tout double emploi et à garantir une valeur ajoutée et une utilisation des ressources optimales. Ceci s'applique en particulier à la proposition de décision de la Commission sur le financement d'un projet pilote contenant un ensemble d'actions préparatoires en vue de renforcer la lutte contre le terrorisme qui prévoit le financement d'un système général d'alerte rapide globale (ARGUS) et du programme européen de protection des infrastructures critiques (EPCIP), de manière à garantir la cohérence dans le domaine de la protection des infrastructures critiques et de la protection civile.

Between 1998 and 2000, EUR 21.9 million was allocated to projects directly benefiting indigenous peoples, from budget lines including, B7-6000 (NGO Co-financing), B7-6200, B7-6201 and B7-8110 (Environment and tropical forests), B7-7 (EIDHR-Democracy and human rights) and the ECHO budget line B7-210.
Il importe tout d'abord d'avoir un aperçu du volume des activités de la Commission relatives aux populations autochtones et des différents instruments en jeu. Entre 1998 et 2000, 21,9 millions d'euros ont été affectés à des projets profitant directement aux populations autochtones, en particulier sur les lignes budgétaires B7-6000 (cofinancement avec les ONG), B7-6200, B7-6201 et B7-8110 (environnement et forêts tropicales), B7-7 (IEDDH-démocratie et droits de l'homme) ainsi que sur la ligne budgétaire d'ECHO B7-210.
