IN-CONTEXT TRANSLATIONS

1. For the purposes of paragraph (a) of the definition “offshore area” in section 2 of the Canada–Newfoundland Atlantic Accord Implementation Act, the prescribed line of the offshore area of the province of Newfoundland and Labrador that is adjacent to the offshore area of the province of Nova Scotia, as defined in section 2 of the Canada-Nova Scotia Offshore Petroleum Resources Accord Implementation Act, is the line described in the schedule.

Urges the Commission to take Parliament’s proposals into account and to propose a definition of the blue economy that covers all existing or future production and employment at sea, as well as the onshore ramifications thereof; calls on the Commission to specify those activities in the EU most likely to be of use in developing and consolidating the blue economy and, to that end, to draw up a non-exhaustive, inclusive list that covers, as a minimum, the following activities: maritime technology and innovation, sustainable fisheries, shipbuilding, renewable marine energy, sustainable seabed mining, marine biotechnology, seaweed farming, fish farming, shellfish farming, coastal and maritime tourism, the development of offshore platforms, shipping, the cleaning-up of the sea and port areas, undersea pipeline and cable burial, and seawater desalination;

2) Following the adoption of the position of the European Parliament at first reading with a view to the adoption of Directive 2013/./EU of the European Parliament and of the Council on safety of offshore oil and gas operations and amending Directive 2004/35/EC in plenary on 21 May 2013, a number of alignments are proposed, including the definitions of ‘installations’ and ‘offshore oil and gas operations’ in Article 2.

After further consultation with stakeholders to adjust the definitions, this new definition maintains the existing design category B, but deletes the area and type of navigation (“Offshore”) because the conditions which need to be taken into account by the user are the wind force and the wave height.
