Both the Greek media and the US State Department have criticised Turkey's stealthy confiscation of the more than one thousand year old Monastery of St George Koudounas, situated on the hill of the same name on the island of Prinkipos, for the benefit of its General Directorate for Foundations, in violation of fundamental rights and the European Convention on Human Rights (freedom of religious faith, right to property, etc.).
Des médias grecs ainsi que le secrétariat d’État des États-Unis ont reçu des plaintes portant sur la confiscation, en cours dans le plus grand secret depuis 1977, du monastère, plus que millénaire, de Saint-Georges Koudouna du Patriarcat œcuménique, établi sur la colline homonyme de l’île des Princes, et ce, au profit de la direction des fondations religieuses, au mépris des droits fondamentaux et de la Convention européenne des droits de l’homme (liberté de religion, droit de propriété, etc.).
