Where the Council decides to grant the European Parliament access to classified information held by the Council in the area of the common foreign and security policy, it either takes ad hoc decisions to that effect or uses the Interinstitutional Agreement of 20 November 2002 between the European Parliament and the Council concerning access by the European Parliament to sensitive information of the Council in the field of security and defence policy (hereinafter ‘the Interinstitutional Agreement of 20 November 2002’), as appropriate.

Until the adoption of such arrangements, existing provisions under the Interinstitutional Agreement of 20 November 2002 between the European Parliament and the Council concerning access by the European Parliament to sensitive information of the Council in the field of security and defence policy will apply.
