IN-CONTEXT TRANSLATIONS

Decision No. 1346/2001/EC[9], amending the guidelines adopted in 1996 as regards seaports, inland ports and intermodal terminals, as well as project No. 8 in Annex III, was adopted by the European Parliament and the Council on 22 May 2001. The Decision states that interconnection points, including seaports, inland ports and intermodal terminals, are a pre-condition for the integration of the different transport modes in a multimodal network.
Le 22 mai 2001, le Parlement européen et le Conseil ont adopté la décision n° 1346/2001/CE[9] modifiant les orientations adoptées en 1996 en ce qui concerne les ports maritimes, les ports de navigation intérieure et les terminaux intermodaux ainsi que le projet n° 8 de l’annexe III. Cette décision précise que les points d'interconnexion incluant des ports maritimes, des ports intérieurs et des terminaux intermodaux constituent une condition préalable à l'intégration des différents modes de transport dans un réseau multimodal.

On 5 June the Council adopted a common position on the proposal to amend Decision N° 1692/96 on Community guidelines for the development of the trans-European transport networks (TEN-T) so as to include seaports and inland ports and to amend a project in Annex III (Table I).

After the opinion of the European Parliament in first reading, the Commission submitted an amendment to its proposal concerning seaports, inland waterway traffic ports and intermodal terminals, as well as project N° 8 of Annex III. [4] The Council reached a political agreement on its joint position on the matter.

On 22 May 2001 Decision No 1346/2001/EC[6] was adopted by the European Parliament and the Council, amending the TEN-T guidelines as regards seaports, inland ports and intermodal terminals, emphasising the multimodal dimension of the network and thus reacting on the recent developments.

Agreement was reached on 27 February between the European Parliament and the Council meeting at the Conciliation Committee on the Decision amending Decision Nº 1692/96/EC as regards seaports, inland ports and intermodal terminals.

The Council unanimously adopted its common position concerning the criteria on the inclusion of seaports and inland ports in the Trans-European Networks.The common position will be transmitted to the European Parliament for its second reading, in accordance with the co-decision procedure.
