The plan for countering desertification recently presented by the Commission represents an attempt to provide an initial effective response to this problem, a response which could be translated into practical terms as part of the implementaiton of Lome III. In this connection the following would appear to be essential : better coordination both at Community and international level, cohesiveness between the policies of the various donors, and also the concentration of financial resources in such a way as to render irreversible the progress made in countering desertification.
Le Plan de lutte contre la desertification que la Commission vient de presenter cherche de donner une premiere reponse efficace a ce probleme, une reponse qui pourrait etre concretisee lors de l'execution de la Convention de Lome III.
