However, the reason underlying international cooperation largely transcends the need to meet the demands of this or that country and, in fact, is fundamental to ensuring interoperability with existing systems, in order to promote European industrial and political know-how, stimulate the provision of system applications, penetrate the markets of third countries and install components of the terrestrial segment in certain parts of the globe.
La raison d'être de la coopération internationale dépasse toutefois largement la nécessité de répondre aux sollicitations de tel ou tel pays. Elle s'avère, en effet, fondamentale pour assurer l'interopérabilité avec les systèmes existants, pour promouvoir le savoir-faire industriel et politique européen et stimuler l'offre des applications du système, pour pénétrer les marchés des pays tiers et pour installer des composantes du segment terrestre dans certaines parties du globe.
