Whether through his tireless efforts battling apartheid and helping to free Nelson Mandela, his vision in achieving the Free Trade Agreement with the Americans that later expanded to NAFTA, his battles to rid our continent of acid rain, and, most important, his valiant attempts to bring Quebec into the Constitution with " honour and enthusiasm," he did the best that was in him.
Que ce soit par ses efforts inlassables en vue de combattre l'apartheid et de contribuer à la libération de Nelson Mandela, sa vision lorsqu'il a conclu avec les Américains l'Accord de libre-échange qui allait s'élargir pour devenir l'ALENA, ses luttes pour débarrasser notre continent des pluies acides et, surtout, ses courageuses tentatives pour ramener le Québec au sein de la Constitution dans « l'honneur et l'enthousiasme », il a donné le meilleur de lui-même.
