In August 2010, Commissioner Semeta (Taxation and Customs Union, Audit and Anti-Fraud) met with relevant Hong Kong counterparts for discussions on matters relating to taxation and customs; while congratulating the Hong Kong Authorities for the steps forward made in the implementation of the OECD standards for assistance in tax matters, he stressed the continuing interest of the EU and its Member States in establishing specific cooperation on income from savings with Hong Kong in order to ensure taxation of EU investors in accordance with the rules of their Member State of residence, as provided for by the EU Directive on Taxation of Savings Income and the accompanying agreements In September, Director-General Deffaa (Taxation and Customs Union) headed a delegation of customs officials for the 8th meeting of the EU-Hong Kong Joint Customs and Cooperation Committee.
En août 2010, le commissaire Semeta (fiscalité et union douanière, audit et lutte antifraude) s'est entretenu avec ses homologues de Hong Kong de questions relatives à la fiscalité et à la douane. 11. Congratulates the Committee on the work it has undertaken in relation to petitions received on issues related to disability, about which there has been a significant increase in 2013; notes the efforts which were made to ensure the successful launch of the EU framework under the terms of article 33 of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disability where the Petitions Committee was associated with the European Commission, the Fundamental Rights Agency and the European Disability Forum, and notes the willingness of the Committee to continue to support this activity; regrets that subsequently the involvement of the Petitions Committee within the UNCRPD Framework has been terminated and that it has been replaced by legislative committees which also have responsibility in this field, considers this latter decision to have been based on a misinterpretation of the functions attributed under the UNCRPD Framework;

Stresses that multi-level governance allows better exploitation of the potential of territorial cooperation thanks to the relations developed among private and public actors across borders; urges those Member States which have not yet done so to adopt as soon as possible the necessary provisions allowing the setting up of European Groupings of Territorial Cooperation; recommends that the Commission promote exchange of information between the EGTCs already created and those in the process of being set up in the framework of existing programmes; congratulates the Committee of the Regions on the quality of its work on EGTCs and calls for its available instruments, in particular its Lisbon Monitoring Platform and its Subsidiarity Monitoring Network, to be used to promote the exchange of best practices between regions and Member States with a view to the joint identification and determination of objectives, subsequent planning actions, and, finally, a comparative evaluation of the outcomes of cohesion policy;
souligne que la gouvernance à multiniveaux permet de mieux exploiter le potentiel de coopération territoriale grâce aux relations développées entre acteurs privés et publics au-delà des frontières; invite instamment les États membres qui ne l'ont pas encore fait à adopter le plus rapidement possible les dispositions nécessaires permettant la création de groupements européens de coopération territoriale (GECT); recommande que la Commission se charge de promouvoir l'échange d'informations entre les GECT déjà créés et ceux en cours de création dans le cadre des programmes existants; salue la qualité du travail effectué par le Comité des régions sur la question des GECT et demande la mise en œuvre des instruments dont dispose ce dernier, en particulier le suivi de la stratégie de Lisbonne et le réseau de monitorage de la subsidiarité, pour promouvoir l'échange de bonnes pratiques entre régions et États membres, en vue d'identifier et de déterminer conjointement les objectifs et les actions de planification nécessaires et, au final, de réaliser une évaluation comparative des résultats de la politique de cohésion;

He congratulated the Committee for its role in the Middle East peace process, and expressed the hope that its plan to hold a trilateral conference in the region in the autumn would come to fruition.
Il a notamment félicité le Comité pour le rôle qu'il joue dans le processus de paix au Moyen-Orient, et a exprimé l'espoir que le projet du CESE d'organiser une conférence trilatérale à l'automne dans cette région puisse se concrétiser.

Secondly, I believe it was also appropriate that it should be produced by Mrs McKenna, with whom I disagree on so many fisheries issues, but not on this report, which has been unanimously approved by our committee, despite the difficulty of this issue, and furthermore with no amendments from the House. I therefore congratulate the Committee on Fisheries and our rapporteur.
Je crois également qu'il est judicieux que ce rapport ait été élaboré par notre collègue, Mme McKenna, avec laquelle je suis très souvent en désaccord en matière de pêche, mais pas en ce qui concerne ce rapport. Malgré les difficultés qu'il représentait, ce rapport a été approuvé à l'unanimité au sein de notre commission et, de surcroît, sans aucun amendement en séance plénière.

The President then congratulated the Committee for having successfully organised the first civil society convention at European level - "a convention which will surely have to be extended to include new participants".
