Welcomes the preliminary study carried out by the European Institute for the Media within the context of a larger study: 'the information of the citizen in the EU: obligations for the media and the Institutions concerning the citizen's right to be fully and objectively informed' which examines a core number of countries including larger Member States, smaller Member States and examples from Scandinavia, southern Europe and eastern Europe to give an overview of different systems reflecting different traditions of media use, and looks forward to the final study, due in June, which will contain final comparative conclusions based on the situation on all 25 current and new Member States and complete recommendations;
