The Mobile communication and technologies project will focus on supporting research related to the introduction of 3G mobile communications systems and also looking beyond those technologies (with some EU level support through the Community research or structural funding).
La projet sur les technologies et communications mobiles visera essentiellement l'aide à la recherche liée à l'introduction des systèmes de communications de troisième génération et à la recherche qui dépasse ces technologies (avec une part d'aide communautaire provenant des budgets de recherche ou des fonds structurels).

- Over the current period 2000-06, the Structural Funds are foreseen to support infrastructure investment (energy, transport and electronic communications); research; technological development and innovation up to around EUR60 billion: in particular, EUR29.2 billion for transport infrastructures, EUR9.2 billion for research, technological development and innovation (RDI); EUR6.1 billion for electronic communications and information society, EUR1.8 billion for energy.

In the context of the preparation of the 7th Framework Programme, the current Mobile Communications and Technology Platform initiative, launched by the Commission [3], is likely to evolve into a formal technology platform as described in the Communications "A European Initiative for Growth" [4] and "Building our Common Future" [5].
